Frequently Asked Questions
In your experience, how does consistent chiropractic care impact a patient’s long-term spinal health compared to those who start and stop care frequently?
In my experience, consistent chiropractic care has a major impact on my patient’s long-term spinal health. I have patients in their 80s and 90s who have been coming regularly for years. They always tell me how much they are still able to do in their life and how they wish all of their friends were under regular chiropractic care.
What role does patient education play in encouraging individuals to view chiropractic care as a consistent health practice, similar to dental hygiene or exercise?
Ongoing patient education is crucial to help patients see consistent chiropractic care as a health and wellness tool rather than just pain relief.
Can you get too many chiropractic adjustments?
You can get too many chiropractic adjustments. Early on in someone’s care, it is important to see them frequently. After the spine stabilizes and pain is better, it is time to reduce the frequency of chiropractic care.
Unlock Your Body's Potential: Consistent Chiropractic Care
Hello everybody, this is Dr. Aaron Seaton with The Chiropractic Place and today's video is about starting and stopping chiropractic care. I have this in my office, I've been doing this a long time, about 18 years now, so I have this tendency to see this with certain patients where they get started with chiropractic care, they notice their body's changing, the better quality of life , they're functioning better, maybe they're sleeping better, less pain, we start seeing all of these results, and then they start to kind of drift away. And so it's important for us to kind of go over this concept because once you make all this effort to get yourself back to where you're feeling good and functioning well, it's important to maintain that.
And in my office, depending on people's lifestyles, that could be anywhere from once a week to once a month, but I would always recommend the bare bones minimum being once a month to get your spine checked, get adjusted, and keep things healthy. Now, this concept is important because once you start feeling better, that tendency to drift does happen, and we can see people, maybe they go a few months, maybe even up to a year where they're, oh, I don't feel a whole lot of pain, but if things in the spine start to lock up and aren't moving correctly, you don't necessarily feel pain immediately. In my office, we usually tell people the pain is usually the first thing to leave and the last thing to show up.
So you can have these processes in your spine happening where it's causing wear and tear, causing the spine to wear out, but you don't necessarily feel it, and the pain is that last thing to show up in that process. And when we start adjusting people, usually the pain is the first thing to start to clear up, and then what we have to do is educate our patients about the importance of continuing so that we can properly rehabilitate and strengthen that spine and make sure it's moving correctly. But just remember this concept, it applies in a lot of aspects of our life, whether it's exercise, people start and stop all the time, but what is the best thing to do with exercise? To stay consistent, to keep at it.
You know, brushing our teeth, taking care of our teeth, it's not a good idea to start and stop, right? It's something you want to do consistent , you want to be regular to take care of your dental health. Well, chiropractic care is no different. You want to stay on some kind of consistent game plan with your chiropractic care because you only have one spine, it's best you take care of it along the way.
