Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of exercise?
Exercise has advantages, including improved mood, sleep, cardiovascular health, mobility, and overall health.
How much exercise do you need a day?
It is important to get at least 30-60 minutes of exercise each day. Some days should have more rigorous exercise than others but a good rule of thumb is 30-60 minutes of exercise every day.
What happens if you don t exercise?
Not exercising can affect us in several ways. Your risk of death for all causes of mortality increases significantly. Many people notice increases in pain and a decrease in joint mobility.
Why Daily Exercise Is Important?
When we're talking about health and longevity, there are a lot of different factors that people discuss, such as sleep, obviously very important, water, drinking water, and ensuring we're eating a balanced diet.
Still, a variable is the single biggest predictor of longevity right now.
That value is called your VO2 max, your VO2 max, and your body's ability to take in oxygen when put under maximum stress via exercise.
We know that this is the gold standard for predicting longevity for people.
Where are you at with your body's ability to move oxygen into the muscles and sustain high exercise output levels?
This is the biggest predictor of this, knowing how likely we are to live for a long time.
This is it.
This is why I discuss the importance of daily exercise with my patients; we know there's nothing more important than knowing your VO2 max.
Your body's ability to do that could be different kinds of exercise for different people.
Some people love to swim, some love mountain biking and that's the great thing about this: it doesn't matter what you prefer.
As long as you exercise daily, you can elevate your VO2 max.
Even if you don't exercise, starting walking 30 minutes a day will increase your body's VO2 max.
It's great for everyone because you can start anywhere and do things you enjoy.
I love going out and running the beautiful trails that we have here in Shasta County.
I love doing that.
I love training at home in the mornings to incorporate different things I enjoy and keep my VO2 max elevated to increase my chances of living longer.
This makes sense why daily exercise is so important, as it is the number one predictor of longevity.
There's nothing that outdoes that, and the way you improve that is daily exercise.
